Celebrating the Holidays at The Highlands of Millbrook

Highlands of Millbrook

Millbrook is a charming, quaint town that sits just east of Durham and is home to our latest community, Highlands of Millbrook. If you’re looking to leave the hustle of the city but still want a host of activities for you and your family, Millbrook might just be the perfect neighbourhood for you. This week, we look ahead to some of the holiday events happening around our community of new detached homes and town homes near Durham Region.

December 7-10 is the annual Christmas in the Village that brings an old time Christmas to downtown Millbrook. This event features Christmas stories, Horse Drawn Wagon Rides, Crafts and a Roast Beef Dinner topped off with a parade and a Christmas musical with Millbrook’s community choir at St Thomas’ Community Church.

The Hutchison House Christmas Market is back in Peterborough this November 25. The annual event runs from 10 am-12:30 pm with proceeds going to the Hutchison House Museum, and features baked goods, jams, Christmas decor and more. Don’t forget to stop into Hutchison House bookshop while you’re there, as books are always a favourite Christmas gift and the shop is overflowing with something for all ages.

Don’t forget your Empire Cheese Orders for those holiday get-togethers, available at the museum.

Hey Kids! Santa is coming to Peterborough on December 2nd for the 44th Annual Kinsmen Santa Claus Parade. It’s the longest running, most prominent Santa Claus Parade in the area.  Kick off the holiday season Saturday night and make sure to welcome Santa to Peterborough. The parade will include many service clubs, businesses and many community organisations with marching bands and floats to celebrate the holiday season.

On December 16th at Devil’s Elbow Ski and Snowboard Resort, meet Santa and his Elves! Event is from 1-3pm and collections will be made for the local food bank. This is a great way to celebrate the season outdoors.

Also very close to home and a regular winter activity in Millbrook is family skating at the Millbrook arena. Every Sunday all winter long, kids and their parents can skate from 1-2:30pm.

And if you like cold weather and ice, wait for hockey season to be in full swing! Instead of breaking the bank for Leafs tickets, check out one of the original OHL, and arguably, most famous junior hockey teams in all of Canada. Pick up tickets to a Peterborough Petes game and cheer on the old ‘maroon and white’. Chris Pronger, Steve Yzerman, Eric and Jordan Staal are just some of the 152 alumni who play or have played in the NHL. Not only have they produced some of the most successful hockey players in history, but they’re also responsible for some great family memories and traditions. Puck drops at the Peterborough Memorial Centre!

Millbrook offers a respite from the hustle of the big city, and it has a ton to offer. With events happening in townships all around the Kawarthas, you’ll enjoy the slower pace of communities built and geared toward families, and ideal for the kids, with a ton of great activities.

The Highlands of Millbrook is proud to be one of the new additions to this wonderful community spirit with a great alternative to new detached homes in Durham from just $524,990.
